RAMALLAH, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated on Friday against the separation wall and against settlement activities in various West Bank towns, while Israel barred the entrance of dozens of international pro-Palestinian activists from entering into its territories.
Palestinian witnesses said in Belien village, west of the West Bank city of Ramallah, dozens of Palestinians protest against the settlement and the separation wall built by Israel in the territory.
The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans, denouncing the Israeli prevention of hundreds of activists to reach the West Bank to express solidarity with the Palestinians.
Witnesses said clashes erupted between the demonstrators and the Israeli soldiers similar to protests and clashes that happen in several West Bank towns every Friday. The village of al-Ma'sara, near the West Bank city of Bethlehem, also saw clashes between the soldiers and the protesters.
They said the Israeli soldiers beat up several demonstrators, when spokesman of the Popular Resistance Committee against the Wall Mohamed Brijeyeh, 33, was also injured. The soldiers used tear gas canisters to disperse the protestors.
The demonstrators called on the international community to exert pressure on Israel and implement the Hague decision, issued in 2004, ordered the removal of the separation wall and was against the settlement expansion. The protesters reiterated they would go ahead with protests and popular resistance against the wall and the expansion of settlement.
Similar protests and clashes erupted in the village of Nabi Saleh, where Israeli peace activists and international solidarity movement members joined the protests. The protesters carried a ship-shaped card to show solidarity with the Gaza-bound flotilla.
Israel decided to prevent the second Gaza aid flotilla from reaching the enclave, which has been under an Israeli blockade for four years. The Popular Committee said in a statement that an Israeli army force attacked the protesters, dozens of whom inhaled tear gas.
Every week, the Palestinians backed by Israeli and foreign peace activists, organize protests and demonstrations against the settlement and the separation wall. These protests are also supported by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Meanwhile, Israel on Friday barred the entrance of hundreds of international pro-Palestinian activists from entering Israel at the Ben-Gurion International Airport, who were planning to arrive in Israel and head to the West Bank. According to the Israel Radio, the Israeli police had stopped at the Israeli airport more than 50 foreigners, and took them for questioning.
Israel said this week its police and security forces geared up to prevent the arrival of hundreds of international pro- Palestinian activists who were planning to fly to Israel and then head to the West Bank to express solidarity with the Palestinians.http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/world/2011-07/09/c_13974378.htm
